Donald Trump Scores Highest Approval Rating in 4 Months

President Donald Trump has hit his highest net approval rating since August with the conservative pollster InsiderAdvantage.

The improvement comes despite voter concerns about affordability under his administration and growing pessimism about the health of the economy.

According to InsiderAdvantage, Trump had a positive net approval rating of +8.4 points in December. That is his highest reading with the pollster since his +10 score in August after the Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A total of 49.5 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s performance in December, 41.1 percent disapproved, and 9.1 percent were undecided. The poll surveyed 800 likely voters on December 20 and had a margin of error of +/- 3.46 percent.

Why It Matters

The president’s approval rate suffered a blow in recent weeks, hitting the lowest level of his second term on 36 percent in a Gallup poll conducted between November 3 and 25.

Between January 21 and 27, right after his inauguration, Trump’s approval rating was 47 percent, the highest of his second term to date.

Trump’s handling of the economy has proven to be a major issue for voters, with only 36 percent happy with his performance on the issue, according to Gallup.

Recent polls have also shown that Trump could be losing his grip over his own base, with Republicans and MAGA supporters questioning his handling of the economy amid inflation and affordability concerns.

What To Know

According to the InsiderAdvantage poll, Trump is much more popular among men than women. A total of 59 percent of male respondents said they approved of Trump’s job performance, while 33.9 percent disapproved, and 7.1 percent were undecided. Among women, only 41.9 percent approved of the president’s performance, while 47.2 percent disapproved and 11 percent were undecided.

Trump’s approval rating was also higher among white voters (57.1 percent) than Black (28.4 percent) and Hispanic (39.4 percent) respondents.

Only 43.5 percent of Americans aged 18 to 39 approved of Trump’s job performance, while support rose to 53.5 percent among those aged 40 to 64, and to 49.4 percent among voters aged 65 and over.

Meanwhile, a large majority of Republicans approved of Trump’s performance at 83.5 percent, but only 24.6 percent of Democrats were happy with his job.

A previous poll conducted by InsiderAdvantage between November 20 and November 21 showed that 44 percent of voters approved of Trump’s job performance, while 49 percent disapproved and seven percent were undecided.

What People Are Saying

InsiderAdvantage pollster Matt Towery said: “Interestingly, our recent job performance surveys have shown the number of undecided respondents at an unusually high number.

“This tells us that some voters, particularly independents, remain unsure as to his accomplishments so far. This suggests he has work to do as he and the GOP enter the midterm season.”

Trump wrote on Truth Social in November: “So many Fake Polls are being shown by the Radical Left Media, all slanted heavily toward Democrats and Far Left Wingers… Fake News will never change, they are evil and corrupt but, as I look around my beautiful surroundings, I say to myself, ‘Oh, look, I’m sitting in the Oval Office!'”

What Happens Next

While Trump will not be on the ballot next year, the way Americans feel about his performance will likely influence the outcome of the critical midterm elections.

The Democrats’ recent victories across the U.S.—including Zohran Mamdani’s win in New York City mayoral race and Abigail Spanberger’s success in the Virginia gubernatorial election—suggest that the party could win back ground from the GOP.
