Politics should not be about picking a side and defending it forever.
It should be about choosing leaders, judging results, and protecting the country.
That means voters must be willing to change their minds when facts change. They must be willing to criticize people they once supported. They must be willing to praise people they did not vote for if those people do something good.
That is not weakness.
That is maturity.
The strongest citizens are not the ones who defend their side no matter what. The strongest citizens are the ones who say, “My loyalty is to the truth and to the American people.”
A president should never receive blind loyalty.
Not Trump.
Not Biden.
Not Obama.
Not Harris.
Not any politician.
Every leader should have to earn public trust every day.
If Trump does a good job, then his supporters can proudly say he is doing a good job. But if he does a bad job, they should not protect him from criticism just because they voted for him.
A vote is not a lifetime contract.
A vote is not a promise to defend someone forever.
A vote is a decision made at one point in time based on what you believed then.
After that, the politician still has to prove himself.
That is why the most important question is not:
“Did Trump win?”
Yes, he won.
The more important question is:
“Is Trump serving the American people well?”
If the answer is yes, support him.
If the answer is no, hold him accountable.
And that same rule should apply to every president from every party.
The American people should not belong to politicians.
Politicians should answer to the American people.
That is the point many people forget.
When voters become too loyal to one man or one party, politicians gain too much power. They stop fearing the public. They stop worrying about consequences. They assume their supporters will excuse anything.
That is bad for democracy.
A healthy democracy requires citizens who are willing to say:
- “I voted for you, but I disagree with this.”
- “I supported you, but you need to do better.”
- “I prefer you to the other side, but I will not defend every decision.”
- “My country matters more than my political team.”
That is the attitude America needs.
Because politics is not about worshipping leaders.
It is about protecting the people.
The goal should not be for Republicans to defeat Democrats forever, or Democrats to defeat Republicans forever. The goal should be for the country to be governed well.
If a Republican president helps Americans, that is good.
If a Democratic president helps Americans, that is good.
If either one hurts Americans, that should be criticized.
The side matters less than the result.
The people matter more than the party.
So yes, Trump supporters have a right to be tired of being insulted. Calling people idiots is not helpful, fair, or productive.
But Trump supporters should also understand this:
Accepting that Trump won does not mean everyone must stop criticizing him.
It means he now has the job.
And once he has the job, the American people have every right to judge his performance.
That is not disrespect.
That is democracy.
And if he wants continued support, he should have to earn it — just like every other president.
