Millions of Americans receiving Social Security retirement and other benefits are scheduled to receive a payment on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The payment is part of the Social Security Administration’s regular monthly schedule. For most people who began receiving Social Security benefits after April 30, 1997, the payment date is determined by the beneficiary’s date of birth.
For October 2026, beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of the month are scheduled to receive their Social Security payment on Wednesday, October 14.
Who Gets a Social Security Payment on October 14?
The October 14 payment generally applies to Social Security beneficiaries whose date of birth falls within the following range:
Birthday: 1st–10th of any month
Payment date: Wednesday, October 14, 2026
This date applies to many retired workers, disabled beneficiaries and survivors who are paid under Social Security’s regular Wednesday payment schedule.
The SSA explains that beneficiaries who filed for benefits on or after May 1, 1997, are generally assigned a payment Wednesday based on their birthday:
- 1st–10th: second Wednesday
- 11th–20th: third Wednesday
- 21st–31st: fourth Wednesday
The Rest of October’s Social Security Schedule
Beneficiaries who are not scheduled for October 14 will generally receive their Social Security payments later in the month.
| Birthday / Payment Group | October 2026 Payment Date |
|---|---|
| Birthdays 1st–10th | Wednesday, Oct. 14 |
| Birthdays 11th–20th | Wednesday, Oct. 21 |
| Birthdays 21st–31st | Wednesday, Oct. 28 |
The SSA’s official 2026 payment calendar confirms these October dates.
Some Beneficiaries Follow a Different Schedule
Not everyone follows the Wednesday schedule.
People who have been receiving Social Security benefits since before May 1, 1997 generally receive payments on the third day of the month. In October 2026, that payment was moved to Friday, October 2, because October 3 fell on a Saturday.
Some people who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or who fall under certain other SSA exceptions, can also have a different payment date. The SSA says beneficiaries who receive SSI along with Social Security are generally paid on the third of the month.
What About SSI Payments in October?
SSI follows a separate schedule.
The October 2026 SSI payment was issued on Thursday, October 1. A second SSI payment is scheduled for Friday, October 30, because November 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday. That October 30 payment is actually the SSI payment for November.
That means some SSI recipients will see two payments in their bank account during October, but the second payment is not an extra monthly benefit. It is the November payment being delivered early because of the calendar.
Why October 14 Matters to Retirees
For many households, Social Security is a major part of the monthly budget. Knowing the payment date can help beneficiaries plan for housing, groceries, utilities, medical expenses and other recurring bills.
The exact amount of an individual’s payment depends on factors including earnings history, claiming age and the type of Social Security benefit received. The SSA does not send every beneficiary the same amount.
For beneficiaries expecting a payment on October 14, checking a bank account or Direct Express account on or around the scheduled date can help confirm when the funds have arrived.
The 2027 Social Security COLA Is a Separate Issue
The October 14 payment should not be confused with the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment for 2027.
The 2027 COLA is calculated separately using inflation data from the third quarter and is intended to determine the increase in benefits beginning with payments affected by the new year’s adjustment. Current news reports have been closely watching the October 2026 inflation data and the official COLA announcement.
In other words, receiving a Social Security payment on October 14 does not mean that payment includes the 2027 COLA. The October 2026 payment is part of the current benefit year.
What If Your Payment Doesn’t Arrive?
The SSA says payment timing can depend on the type of benefit and the individual’s assigned payment day. Beneficiaries should first check their bank or payment account and their my Social Security account.
The SSA also provides an online benefit-payment schedule where beneficiaries can view upcoming and past payments.
If a scheduled payment does not arrive, beneficiaries can contact the Social Security Administration for assistance.
Bottom Line
Wednesday, October 14, 2026, is an important Social Security payment date.
Beneficiaries with birthdays from the 1st through the 10th are scheduled to receive their regular Social Security payment that day under the SSA’s standard Wednesday payment schedule. Those with birthdays later in the month are generally scheduled for October 21 or October 28.
SSI recipients follow a different schedule, and some beneficiaries may receive two SSI payments during October because November 1 falls on a Sunday.
For anyone living primarily on Social Security, knowing the exact payment date can make monthly budgeting easier—and can help avoid confusion when multiple benefit dates appear on the calendar.
