Here’s Who Will NOT Receive a Social Security Payment on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026

Millions of Americans are scheduled to receive Social Security benefits on Wednesday, October 28, but the payment will not go to every retiree, disability beneficiary or survivor receiving benefits.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses a staggered payment schedule, with dates determined by a beneficiary’s birth date or, in certain cases, the type of benefit they receive. Under the agency’s 2026 calendar, October 28 is the final regular Wednesday payment date for October.

The beneficiaries generally scheduled to receive payments that day are those on the regular Wednesday schedule whose qualifying birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of the month. Other groups were assigned earlier dates or follow a different payment calendar. https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf

For people depending on monthly benefits to cover groceries, rent, utilities and medical expenses, understanding these differences can help avoid confusion about when money is expected to arrive.

1. Beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 20th

Most Social Security retirement, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor beneficiaries who follow the standard Wednesday schedule are paid according to the birthday of the worker whose earnings record supports the benefit.

For October 2026, the schedule was:

  • Wednesday, October 14: Qualifying birthdays from the 1st through the 10th.
  • Wednesday, October 21: Qualifying birthdays from the 11th through the 20th.
  • Wednesday, October 28: Qualifying birthdays from the 21st through the 31st.

As a result, beneficiaries in the first two birthday groups should not expect another regular October payment on October 28 simply because the final payment round is taking place.

2. People who received their benefits under the older payment schedule

Some beneficiaries follow a different schedule from the birthday-based Wednesday system.

People who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 generally receive their benefits on the third day of the month. Certain other groups, including people receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), also follow a different schedule.

Because October 3 fell on a Saturday, the relevant Social Security payments were scheduled for Friday, October 2.

These beneficiaries generally should not expect another regular Social Security payment on October 28.

The SSA outlines these exceptions in its official payment-date FAQ.

3. SSI recipients waiting for their regular November payment

SSI follows a separate payment calendar. Unlike most Social Security retirement and disability benefits, SSI is generally paid on the first day of the month.

Since November 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday, the November SSI payment is scheduled for Friday, October 30.

That means eligible SSI recipients may see a deposit later this week, but it is not scheduled for Wednesday, October 28. The October 30 deposit represents November’s regular payment issued early because of the calendar.

Recipients should budget the money for November rather than treat it as an additional benefit.

4. People who are expecting a new or additional payment

The October 28 payment date is part of the regular monthly schedule. It does not, by itself, mean the government is issuing a bonus, a special stimulus check or an additional Social Security payment.

The amount a beneficiary receives depends on their individual eligibility and benefit calculation. A payment date alone does not determine the amount or establish that someone qualifies for an extra payment.

Beneficiaries should rely on official SSA notices and their personal benefit accounts when checking payment amounts.

Does the October 28 schedule differ by state?

No. Social Security is a federal program, and the regular payment schedule applies nationwide. The same birthday-based rules generally apply to eligible recipients in all states.

However, the date on which a payment appears in a bank account may vary because of financial institution processing. A scheduled payment date does not guarantee that every bank will post a deposit at precisely the same time.

What should you do if your payment is missing?

If you belong to the group scheduled for October 28 but do not see your deposit, check your bank account and confirm your payment date first.

The SSA advises beneficiaries to allow three additional mailing days before reporting a payment that has not arrived. If the money remains missing, contact the agency at 1-800-772-1213 or visit the official website at https://www.ssa.gov/.

The bottom line

Social Security beneficiaries whose qualifying birthdays fall between the 1st and 20th of the month generally received their October payments on October 14 or October 21. People following the older payment schedule generally received theirs on October 2, while SSI recipients are scheduled to receive November’s payment early on October 30.

The key distinction is that not being scheduled for payment on October 28 does not mean someone is ineligible for Social Security. It simply means their regular payment date is different.
