(NewsNation) — Social Security payments will go out to millions of recipients this month, but some beneficiaries can expect to receive their money earlier than usual because of a federal holiday in November.
The Social Security Administration generally distributes payments based on recipients’ birth dates, with most benefits scheduled to arrive on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month.
Here’s when recipients can expect their November payments.
If your birthday falls between the first and 10th of the month, Social Security benefits are typically paid on the second Wednesday of the month, which falls on Nov. 11 this year, according to the SSA.
If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of the month, benefits will be paid on the third Wednesday of the month, Nov. 18.
For those born between the 21st and 31st of the month, benefits are scheduled to be paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month, Nov. 25, according to the SSA’s payment calendar.
However, there is a change to the payment schedule this November. Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11, the second Wednesday of the month. Because of the federal holiday, Social Security recipients who would normally receive benefits that day will instead receive their payments one day earlier, on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
More than 75 million people in the United States receive Social Security benefits. Social Security provides monthly benefits to retired workers, people with qualifying disabilities and eligible surviving family members.
Supplemental Security Income provides monthly payments to people with little or no income and limited resources who have a qualifying disability, are blind or are 65 or older.
While both programs are administered by the SSA, they follow different payment schedules.
Here is a breakdown of when Social Security recipients can expect their payments this month:
-
Tuesday, Nov. 10: Social Security beneficiaries with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month. These recipients normally receive their payments on the second Wednesday of the month, but because Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, payments will be issued one day earlier.
-
Wednesday, Nov. 18: Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month.
-
Wednesday, Nov. 25: Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month.
