WASHINGTON, D.C. — Social Security payments continue this week, with the next scheduled round arriving on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026.
The payment is part of the Social Security Administration’s regular monthly schedule. For most retirement, survivor and disability beneficiaries who started receiving benefits after May 1997, the payment date is determined by the beneficiary’s day of birth.
Who Gets Paid Aug. 19?
The Aug. 19 payment is generally for beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of the month.
| August 2026 payment date | Birth date | Typical recipients |
|---|---|---|
| Aug. 12 | 1st–10th | Retirement, survivor & disability beneficiaries |
| Aug. 19 | 11th–20th | Retirement, survivor & disability beneficiaries |
| Aug. 26 | 21st–31st | Retirement, survivor & disability beneficiaries |
The SSA’s official 2026 payment calendar confirms that the third Wednesday is used for beneficiaries born from the 11th through the 20th.
Who Shouldn’t Expect a Payment on Aug. 19?
Not everyone receiving Social Security gets paid according to the Wednesday birthday schedule.
People who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 generally follow a different payment arrangement. The SSA’s calendar also has special rules for people receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
SSI itself follows a separate schedule and is generally paid on the first of the month, with adjustments when that date falls on a weekend or holiday.
What About SSI Recipients?
SSI recipients should not assume that Aug. 19 is their regular August payment date.
Because of the way the calendar falls this year, the August SSI payment was issued earlier, rather than on Aug. 19.
This is one reason beneficiaries should check the type of benefit they receive, not simply look at the date of a Social Security headline.
How Much Will Beneficiaries Receive?
The amount of the Aug. 19 payment isn’t the same for everyone.
Your monthly benefit depends on factors including:
- Your lifetime earnings
- When you claimed benefits
- Your benefit type
- Your work history
- Family circumstances
- Applicable deductions or withholdings
Social Security benefits received a 2.8% COLA for 2026. The SSA says the average retirement benefit increased by approximately $56 per month as a result.
That doesn’t mean every beneficiary received exactly $56 more. Individual increases depend on the person’s benefit amount.
What If Your Payment Doesn’t Arrive?
If you normally receive your benefit electronically and don’t see it on the expected date, don’t immediately assume there’s a problem.
The SSA advises beneficiaries to allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security if a payment doesn’t arrive as expected.
For people using direct deposit, however, it’s also worth checking the bank account and confirming that the payment information is current.
The Next Social Security Payment
After Aug. 19, the next regular Wednesday payment for most beneficiaries will be:
Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026
That payment generally goes to beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of the month.
August 2026 Schedule at a Glance
| Date | Who generally receives payment? |
|---|---|
| Aug. 12 | Birthdays 1st–10th |
| Aug. 19 | Birthdays 11th–20th |
| Aug. 26 | Birthdays 21st–31st |
The Bottom Line
Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, is a confirmed Social Security payment date.
If you receive retirement, survivor or disability benefits under the regular post-May-1997 schedule and your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th, this is the payment date you should be watching.
If your birthday falls later in the month, your scheduled payment is generally Aug. 26.
And if you receive SSI or started receiving Social Security before May 1997, your payment schedule can be different.
Before assuming you’re getting—or missing—a payment, check your benefit type and the official SSA calendar.
