WASHINGTON, D.C. — Millions of Americans have already received their Social Security payments for August, but one final group of retirement, survivor, and disability beneficiaries is still waiting for its money.
The Social Security Administration’s final regularly scheduled Wednesday payment for August 2026 is set for Aug. 26. However, this payment is not for every beneficiary. The date generally applies to recipients whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of any month and who follow the SSA’s standard post-May 1997 payment schedule.
Who Gets Paid on Aug. 26?
For most Social Security beneficiaries who began receiving benefits in May 1997 or later, payments are distributed according to the beneficiary’s birthday.
| Birthday | August 2026 payment date |
|---|---|
| 1st–10th | Aug. 12 |
| 11th–20th | Aug. 19 |
| 21st–31st | Aug. 26 |
Therefore, if you fall into the last birthday group and haven’t already received your August Social Security payment, Wednesday, Aug. 26, is generally your scheduled payment date.
Who Won’t Get a Payment on Aug. 26?
Several groups follow a different schedule.
| Beneficiary group | August 2026 payment timing |
|---|---|
| SSI recipients | July 31 |
| Social Security recipients paid on the 3rd | Aug. 3 |
| Birthdays 1st–10th | Aug. 12 |
| Birthdays 11th–20th | Aug. 19 |
| Birthdays 21st–31st | Aug. 26 |
SSI recipients received their August payment early because Aug. 1 fell on a Saturday. Under the SSA calendar, people who received Social Security before May 1997, as well as certain people who receive both Social Security and SSI, follow the separate schedule associated with the beginning of the month.
What Types of Benefits Are Included?
The birthday-based schedule can apply to regular Social Security benefits, including:
- Retirement benefits
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
- Survivor benefits
- Certain family benefits
The payment date itself doesn’t change the amount a person receives. Individual benefits depend on factors such as earnings history, benefit type, and when benefits were claimed.
What if You Receive a Spousal or Survivor Benefit?
Payment scheduling can be more complicated for benefits based on another person’s work record.
Depending on the beneficiary’s circumstances, the applicable payment schedule may be determined under SSA rules connected to the worker’s record on which the benefit is based. If you’re unsure which schedule applies to you, checking your personal SSA account or payment history is safer than relying only on your own birthday.
Why August Has No SSI Payment Date
Some recipients may notice that there is no SSI payment dated in August.
That’s because SSI is normally paid on the first day of the month. Since Aug. 1, 2026, was a Saturday, the August payment was scheduled for the preceding business day, Friday, July 31. This was an early payment for August—not an extra benefit.
What to Do if Your Payment Doesn’t Arrive
If Aug. 26 is your scheduled payment date and you don’t see your deposit immediately, your bank or financial institution may still be processing the transaction.
The SSA advises beneficiaries to check with their financial institution regarding potential posting delays. If the issue isn’t resolved, contact the Social Security Administration for assistance.

The Bottom Line
The Social Security Administration is scheduled to send its final regular Wednesday payment for August 2026 on Aug. 26.
For most beneficiaries who follow the standard birthday-based schedule, the payment is intended for people born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
If you already received SSI on July 31, Social Security on Aug. 3, or a birthday-based payment on Aug. 12 or Aug. 19, you generally shouldn’t expect another regular August payment on Aug. 26.
Check your birthday group and benefit type—that will tell you whether Wednesday’s Social Security payment is meant for you.
